Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would become a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and a second season officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It feels like constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Has the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to discard a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
