This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
