Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
